You may have seen the Kardashian–Jenner clan promoting the popular SugarBearHair  supplements online due to their paid partnership with the said brand.

But did you know?

Sometimes celebrities have been known to endorse products that do not necessarily work. Now this does not mean all celebrity endorsed products fall short of expectations – think Michael Jordan and Nike, Jennifer Aniston and Aveeno or Micahel Phelps and Talkspace!

In this SugarBearHair review, we research if the endorsed by the Kardashian–Jenner clan vitamins are as safe, effective and of high quality as they say.

This Sugar Bear Hair review is for you, if you have been struggling to grow out long, healthy and silky locks and you want to determine if Sugar Bear Hair is the right fit for you.

Here we cover everything you need to know about:

  1. The SugarBearHair products and their ingredient mix,
  2. As well as the pros and cons, side effects and results of using them.

What is Sugar Bear Hair?

SugarBearHair is:

  1. The #1 best selling hair supplement available online since 2016
  2. The world’s first gummy vegetarian hair multivitamin

Now you may ask what is a gummy vegetarian hair multivitamin?

Inspired by gummy bears that most people love, SugarBearHair decided to create a vegetarian hair multivitamin that does not have the medicinal smell of typical hair supplements, and instead opted for a blue bear shaped hair supplement which has now become their trademark:

While they look and taste fantastic, the product was designed for men as well as women who want healthy longer hair, and not necessarily for people suffering from hair loss (alopecia) and/or genetic balding problems.

In 2016:

This product developed by Dan Morris and Nicole Johnson (also known as Nicole Nightly) of Besweet Creations LLC in the USA took the hair care industry by a storm, boosting online sales.

The brand has two additional hair vitamins options and an assortment of hair care products such as scrunchies, bamboo brushes, sleep socks, etc. It has captured the attention of hair supplement users worldwide.

But does the product deliver what it promises?

Our SugarBearHair Review written after extensive research from reliable and authoritative sources about user reviews, side effects, ingredient makeup and dosage levels, go into detail for you to decide if this is the ideal supplement for you.

Let’s take a closer look at their product line in the next section.

What is in the SugarBearHair Product Line?

SugarBearHair multivitamins has three major products:

SugarBearHair Vitamins

Who is it for?

SugarBearHair Women’s Multi

Who is it for?

Sugarbear Sleep Vitamins

Who is it for?

Designed for men and women who are looking to optimize their sleep patterns

All three vitamins compliment each other and therefore, can be taken together as specified by the SugarBearHair brand. While the products do contain sugars and sodium, they are in very small amounts.

Pros and Cons of their Bestseller: SugarBearHair Vitamins

On Amazon it has 4.3 stars out of 5 with a staggering 12,395 ratings at currentHave high amounts of lead
Great for people who want long healthy hairA vegetarian product, not vegan
It’s a multivitamin providing nutrients such as biotin, zinc, vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, etc. which has other benefits in addition to hair benefitsMay carry higher dosage amounts than specified on the supplement label
Looks, tastes and smells greatContains glucose syrup which is an artificial sweetener

The Good:

SugarBearHair is an FDA approved hair supplement that is animal cruelty free, gluten free, gelatin free, soy free, wheat free, dairy free, beef free, pork free, egg free, fish free and peanut free. Unfortunately it is not vegan because their Vitamin D is sourced from wool.

The product when consumed according to the daily dosage amount (two gummies), only contains 3 g of added sugars. Altogether two gummies have 15 calories.

The Bad:

The dosage amounts of the ingredients listed on the SugarBearHair label does not tarry with the actual amounts in the gummies. When Labdoor, an independent San Francisco laboratory tested 11 ingredients; 7 out 11 ingredients listed on the label were inaccurate by 20 percent or more.

Additionally, SugarBearHair contains a significant amount of lead in their gummies according to Labdoor.

You have to keep in mind that natural ingredients when synthesized into a supplement format naturally degrade with time.

The higher ingredient amounts is not as scary as it sounds when you realize that SugarBearHair contains higher amounts of ingredients such as biotin which is a water-soluble vitamin which flushes out with urine when the body has too much biotin.

No adverse consequences were observed because premium, natural ingredients are used in SugarBearHair.

In the name of transparency:

SugarBearHair has also made the full supplement label available on their website itself, so that you can go through it carefully before deciding if this is the supplement for you:

Key Ingredients in their Bestseller: SugarBearHair Vitamins

It is important to determine if the supplement you are consuming carries the right nutrients to support hair health and maintenance. Here we take a closer look at the ingredients in their bestselling multivitamin for healthy long hair.

  1. Biotin

Biotin is all the rage in the supplement culture these days!

It is a water-soluble vitamin that is found in small amounts in food such as eggs, milk, banana, etc.

Why is this so popular?

Because it is an important part of enzymes in your body, which breaks down certain substances like fats and carbohydrates. There is evidence that Biotin can help counter hair loss (alopecia), patchy hair loss (alopecia areata), muscle cramps, multiple sclerosis (MS), brittle nail syndrome, diabetes, etc.

Research about the effects of Biotin on the human body is still a field in its infancy. There is insufficient evidence to support a lot of these claims because the research horizons need to be broadened.

There is evidence that Biotin helps counter hair loss but science needs to catch up to solidify the notion. SugarBearHair according to the label carries 5100 mcg of Biotin.

  1. Coconut Oil

The coconut tree is a goldmine.

Each of its parts can be used to perform a specific function for us that betters our lives.

Right now:

All around the world, coconut oil has gained traction for being one of Mother Nature’s natural remedies.

In fact:

There is evidence that when mineral oil, sunflower oil, and coconut oil were tested that coconut oil came on top1 for its superior chemical structure that significantly reduces protein loss in both undamaged as well as damaged hair.

Be it bleached, UV exposed, permed, chemically treated hair or virgin hair – coconut oil is a whiz at protecting your precious locks and keeping it thick and strong!

  1. Folic Acid (Vitamin B-9)

Why is folic acid important?

It’s at the heart of healthy cell growth. This includes the healthy growth of your hair, nails and skin tissue. It has the added benefit of keeping red blood cells healthy.

However, like Biotin, the research on the effects of folic acid on hair is minimal.

One study2 points out that the lack of Serum Biotin, Vitamin B12, and Folic Acid can lead to premature canities (grey hair). Pregnant women who take folic acid daily have encountered healthier hair growth during their pregnancy term.

Thus there is a spurred interest in folic acid as a potential hair growth treatment.

  1. Iodine

You may have seen iodised salt in your local supermarket. It is salt particles sprinkled with trace amounts of potassium iodate. Basically, iodised salt provides you iodine which is not found in your usual diet.

It is a mineral that helps to make thyroid hormones which is responsible for your metabolism. It is specially important for women because biologically, the female thyroid receives less iodine due to female breasts competing for iodine entrapment.

While you do not need a mass amount of the iodine mineral in your system daily, a lack of iodine can cause iodine deficiency; the symptoms of which are goitres, thyroid problems, squinting, deafness, breast cysts, and developmental disorders.

An iodine deficiency can also cause thinning hair because your hair follicles are unable to regenerate. An average adult only needs 150 mcg per day and SugarBearHair contains 42 mcg of iodine according to the supplement label, which means it is likely safe to consume.

  1. Inositol

Inositol is a major part of your cell membranes and influences insulin which controls your blood sugar levels. It is a naturally occurring compound that can be consumed via beans, citrus fruit, cantaloupe, beef, pork, fish, poultry, etc.

What it can do for hair is that:

It increases the growth rate of new hair while strengthening them. It has also been associated as a remedy for thinning hair that is caused by PCOS in females and DHT in males, but evidence is lacking.

SugarBearHair contains 40 mcg of inositol.

  1. Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B-5)

Vitamin B5 is a water-soluble vitamin from the B group of vitamins. It helps produce energy by breaking down fats and carbohydrates.

What’s great about pantothenic acid3 for people with hair problems (especially women undergoing menopause) is that it prevents premature grey hair, restoring hair’s natural colour.

Additionally, it provides moisture to hair, plays a major role in cell division in hair follicles and comes packed with anti-inflammatory properties. If you take pantothenic acid naturally, it can be found in food such as mushrooms, eggs and green leafy vegetables.

SugarBearHair contains 5.2 mg of pantothenic acid.

  1. Sodium

Salt regulates the fluids in the body. It is a necessity for muscle and nerve function.

When it comes to hair health, it works on a very thin line. There are anti-dandruff treatments that apply salt on hair to loosen and remove flakes. It also absorbs extra oil and moisture that contribute to fungi growth in hair.

But there is a common assumption that too much salt can be toxic for your hair because extra salt can prevent essential nutrients from entering hair follicles which can cause gradual hair loss. However, a direct link between high salt intake and hair loss have NOT been established yet.

What borders on dangerous is when you consume more than 2300 mg of salt per day.

Fortunately, SugarBearHair multivitamins only contain 10 mg of salt in each serving.

  1. Vitamin A (Palmitate)

Vitamin A is all about giving you a healthy scalp for healthy hair.

It is also found in food such as carrots and vegetables. It strengthens your hair roots and keeps hair lush and supple.

Palmitate is a naturally occurring form of vitamin A. It enhances the appearance and feel of hair (especially damaged/ chemically treated hair), improving suppleness while reducing flakiness.

SugarBearHair contains 630 mcg RAE of vitamin A.

  1. Vitamin B-6

Everyone will agree:

That long hair is a bigger commitment when you think about how you have to plan ahead your hair wash days to have ample time to let it dry naturally without damaging hair with heat from blow dryers.

What’s interesting about vitamin B-6 is that:

You can go longer between washes if you have ample amounts of it in your body because it calms oil production which makes long hair greasy and yucky to touch. In an oil-free ecosystem, hair follicles can grow healthily which prevents roots from going limp.

SugarBearHair contains 2 mg of vitamin B-6.

  1. Vitamin B-12

Our red blood cells do some amazing things to sustain our bodies.

One of the major things red blood cells do to our hair is that it feeds our hair follicles which allows the follicles to grow at a faster pace. The bulb which is a part of hair follicles contains the fastest growing cells in our body!

So how does B-12 get involved with red blood cells?

It is a key component in forming your oxygen-rich and nutrient-rich red blood cells. They push oxygen and other nutrients along the body. This is what is precisely needed for your hair roots to grow sustainably.

SugarBearHair contains 6 mcg of vitamin B-12.

  1. Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acids)

Who doesn’t associate the orange fruit with vitamin C?

From childhood our parents have been urging us to consume citrusy food containing Vitamin C for better health. But what does it do for your hair?

Vitamin C’s collagen production works as protein for your hair

In short:

Your hair grows better and denser as collagen increases blood circulation. You can take vitamin C for better hair and body health in the form of citrusy food or supplements.

SugarBearHair contains 20 mg of vitamin C.

  1. Vitamin D

The best way to produce vitamin D is to stand in morning sun!

That’s why it’s called the sunshine vitamin.

Vitamin D is so important to maintain bone and joint health. When it comes to hair health it contributes to producing new hair follicles that helps to maintain hair thickness and strengthen existing hair.

In fact, a study done about the correlation between serum vitamin D-3 levels and diffuse hair fall concluded that females with diffuse hair fall have low vitamin D-3 levels.

SugarBearHair contains 10 mcg of vitamin D.

  1. Vitamin E

The combination of vitamin C and E, gives your hair elasticity.

It helps to pump blood throughout your body which means that when your hair follicles have a sufficient dose of blood circulating through the roots that it can help with long term anti-breakage.

Vitamin E may also help support a healthy scalp which could assist to grow, regrow and maintain healthy hair. It does this by reducing oxidative stress and free radicals in the scalp which can cause the breakdown of hair follicles.

SugarBearHair contains 7.4 mg of vitamin E.

  1. Zinc

Now more than ever your body’s ability to fight bacteria and viruses have become important due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Zinc does this!

While it helps to prevent the intrusion of microorganisms, it also helps to make DNA. Zinc is available naturally in food such as fish, red meat and poultry.

But how does zinc affect hair growth?

A double-blind, placebo-controlled study5 shows that zinc supplements can support people suffering from alopecia areata (patchy hair loss). There is also evidence that zinc metabolism disturbances6 play a part in hair loss.

SugarBearHair contains 2.7 mg of zinc.
